Hong Kong to Shenzhen: choose the route for your arrival
From Hong Kong Airport, compare a coach to your Shenzhen district with an airside ferry to Shekou. From a Hong Kong hotel, compare West Kowloon high-speed rail with the East Rail border crossings. Each route puts you in a different part of Shenzhen; include the journey to your final address.
Official airport, railway, immigration and operator information checked on 11 October 2026. Check the linked service information again before booking.
Match the route to your starting point
- Landing at HKIA, heading to a named Shenzhen coach stop
Compare a mainland coach with the onward journey to your hotel. Check whether the ticket ends at a border crossing or continues to a city stop, and whether you change vehicles. Luggage arrangements belong to the operator and booked service.
- Landing at HKIA, continuing to Shekou
Consider the SkyPier air-to-sea transfer if its eligibility and sailing times fit. Decide before clearing Hong Kong immigration.
- Already in Hong Kong, heading towards central Futian or Shenzhen North
Compare high-speed rail from West Kowloon. It has a booked departure and station clearance procedures; reaching West Kowloon is a separate part of the trip.
- Already on the Hong Kong MTR network, heading towards Luohu or Futian Checkpoint
East Rail takes you to a pedestrian border crossing. You walk through the controls with your bags, then join Shenzhen transport.
- Travelling with a group, substantial luggage or mobility needs
A pre-booked cross-boundary car can reduce public-transport transfers. Obtain a quote for your exact addresses and confirm seats, luggage space and border arrangements.
Futian, Shenzhen North and Shekou serve different parts of the city. Compare the Shenzhen neighbourhoods before choosing a terminal.
HKIA mainland coaches: book the destination, not just "Shenzhen"
HKIA lists mainland coach services through Shenzhen Bay, Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang and Heung Yuen Wai/Liantang, among other crossings. Its current ticketing and boarding location is the Mainland/Macao Transport and Travel Services Centre, Level 3, Terminal 2. Use the airport's operator links to check your date, final stop and departure arrangements. HKIA coach services and operator directory.
Eternal East's stop guide includes Shenzhen destinations in Nanshan, Futian, Luohu and Longgang, as well as Shenzhen Airport. A listed stop does not mean every airport departure serves it. Compare the actual journey offered in the booking system and keep the full Chinese drop-off address. Eternal East boarding and destination guide.
For a landside airport coach, complete Hong Kong arrival formalities and collect your checked luggage before going to the service centre. This is separate from the airside ferry process below. At the land boundary, follow the operator's instructions for Hong Kong departure and Mainland entry.
Confirm these details with the operator
- Is the fare to the border only, or to the final Shenzhen stop? Which crossing is used?
- Will you leave the vehicle, carry every bag through clearance, or change coaches? Where do you rejoin, and what happens if clearance takes longer?
- What are the baggage allowance, oversize charges and arrangements for a wheelchair or pushchair?
- How do you collect or validate the ticket, and what happens if the arriving flight is delayed?
Keep the operator's baggage and transfer instructions with your ticket. CTG Bus and Eternal East are among the providers listed by HKIA.
SkyPier to Shekou: stay in the airport transit area
Do not clear Hong Kong immigration or collect your checked bags if using this air-to-sea transfer. After immigration, you cannot return to the transfer counter. SkyPier serves transit passengers.
- Have your same-day arrival air ticket, e-ticket or boarding-pass stub, ferry ticket, passport and any required Mainland visa.
- Transfer the same day, remaining airside.
- Go to the ferry counter at Transfer Area E2 at least 60 minutes before sailing with checked bags, or 30 minutes without checked bags. These are counter deadlines, not a landing-to-ferry connection guarantee.
- Present airline baggage-tag receipts for baggage transfer.

HKIA's upstream check-in and tag-through lists concern mainland-port-to-flight journeys. Confirm your airline and ferry connection; those lists do not guarantee both directions.
High-speed rail from Hong Kong West Kowloon
Choose Hong Kong West Kowloon as the departure station and the precise Shenzhen destination. MTR lists both Futian and Shenzhenbei (Shenzhen North); they are different stations. Use the MTR destination and timetable information for the train you intend to book.
Getting to West Kowloon
From HKIA, this is a landside route: enter Hong Kong, collect your luggage and travel to the station. The Airport Express serves Kowloon Station, which connects to West Kowloon by pedestrian routes. Austin Station on the Tuen Ma Line also connects. Allow time for the walk and station procedures; neither Kowloon nor Austin is the high-speed departure station itself. Tickets and passport checks
Book through the official China Railway 12306 service or an MTR-listed ticketing channel. Enter the passenger details for the passport you will carry. Passports recognised by the PRC Government are accepted under the real-name policy; use the same valid original document for the journey. If you need help with verification, use the staffed counter. MTR real-name ticket rules.
At West Kowloon, complete ticket/identity checks, security and both Hong Kong and Mainland immigration before boarding. MTR says the procedures normally take around 30-45 minutes, with extra time needed for passport holders and busy periods. Its current departure page says real-name checking and ticket verification close 30 minutes before departure; the boarding gate closes five minutes before. The five-minute gate deadline is not a safe station-arrival time. Current MTR departure process.
Choose the useful Shenzhen arrival station
- Futian Railway Station is in central Futian, connecting with Metro Lines 2, 3 and 11. It is not Futian Checkpoint.
- Shenzhen North is in Longhua's Minzhi area, with Metro Lines 4, 5 and 6 and onward railway services.
Use your hotel or meeting address to choose between them. Keep luggage manageable for station walks, security and Metro changes; check the train's baggage rules before taking oversized items. Shenzhen Government station guide · MTR high-speed baggage information.
East Rail to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau
Check the train destination: East Rail serves two different crossings. Lo Wu connects to Luohu; Lok Ma Chau station connects to Futian Checkpoint. After leaving the train, follow the pedestrian route through Hong Kong exit and Mainland entry controls with your luggage, then use local transport. MTR East Rail boundary services.
The published control-point hours checked for this guide are 6.30 am-midnight at Lo Wu and 6.30 am-10.30 pm at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line. These are border-opening hours, not last-train departure times from your starting station. Check both the service timetable and any special border notices. Hong Kong Immigration control-point hours.
Lok Ma Chau Spur Line is not the 24-hour Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang road crossing. A coach using Huanggang and a train ending at Lok Ma Chau take you through different facilities. Futian Checkpoint has Shenzhen Metro Lines 4 and 10; Luohu is on Line 1. Check the official Shenzhen Metro line guide for the onward station.
A pre-booked cross-boundary car
For airport-to-address travel, HKIA's SkyLimo directory lists operators offering door-to-door mainland services. This can reduce interchanges for families, groups or travellers carrying several bags. Book a cross-boundary service with an authorised operator rather than assuming an ordinary local taxi booking covers Shenzhen.
Ask for a written quotation stating the pickup point, Shenzhen address, crossing, passenger and baggage capacity, waiting allowance, surcharges and cancellation terms. Confirm whether passengers leave the car for checks, and request child seats or accessibility arrangements before booking. S.T. Travel cross-boundary bookings · Accessible vehicle enquiries.
Compare the full price and journey
For coaches and ferries, price the booked service plus travel from the arrival stop to your address. For rail, add the Hong Kong approach journey and Shenzhen Metro or taxi. For a private car, compare the complete vehicle quote and its waiting or luggage charges. Use live operator prices rather than treating an old fare as a budget: service, date, destination and passenger numbers change the comparison.
Allow for flight arrival and baggage collection where applicable, ticket deadlines, walking, border queues, waiting for the next service and the final local journey. Rail timetables describe the train segment; ferry sailing times and coach running times likewise leave parts of the journey outside the headline figure.
Hong Kong and Mainland China have separate entry requirements. Carry the appropriate documents for each place you enter, and check any return crossing as well. Our arrival guide links to official Mainland entry and accommodation-registration information; the Hong Kong guide covers its own local and entry services.
Save the full Chinese destination address, host or hotel contact, booking reference and a backup route before travelling. If a flight delay or service change makes the original connection impossible, ask the operator about changes before passing a point that prevents you using the booked route.
