Kiwis in the Greater Bay Area

NZGBA connects Kiwis and friends of New Zealand living in, visiting or working in the Greater Bay Area. The network welcomes business owners, professionals, students, educators, families and people who simply want to meet other New Zealanders.

You can come along as a resident or visitor, with or without a business connection. Start with the announced gatherings, or ask about a Kiwi or WeChat introduction for the city where you will be staying.

Shenzhen gatherings and a Hong Kong society

NZGBA's photographed gatherings give a sense of the community: Kiwis, business owners, professionals and friends of New Zealand meeting informally in Shenzhen. For a first visit, an announced social evening provides a time and place to join the conversation.

In Hong Kong, the New Zealand Society of Hong Kong runs social and cultural events and welcomes enquiries about its mailing list. Contact the society directly for its programme.

NZGBA is building connections beyond Shenzhen as local interest and organising capacity grow. For a gathering you can actually put in your calendar, use the Events page for the announced city, venue and time.

Find a local Kiwi connection

When asking NZGBA for a local introduction, send your name, the city and area where you live or will stay, your dates if visiting, and a line about yourself. Say whether you are looking for social company, shared interests or a business conversation.

Kiwi and WeChat introductions depend on available contacts and the relevant group's administrator. Private group codes and member details are not published on this website. The community enquiry route explains what to include when asking for an introduction.

Community, learning and New Zealand culture

There are several ways to contribute: share knowledge with a visiting group, help with a children's activity, or bring a New Zealand food or cultural interest to a community event. Past activities show the range.

New Zealand culture for children

At the Hello APEC Shekou Summer Camp, NZGBA volunteered in a New Zealand Culture session for local and international children aged 6-12.

Learning from a visiting MBA group

Visiting University of Auckland MBA students met NZGBA's founder in Shenzhen for a discussion about entrepreneurship and the GBA.

New Zealand at the Oceania market

NZGBA's New Zealand section at the Hello APEC Oceania cultural market included cricket, a haka performance, pavlova, mānuka honey, toys and wine.

Get to know your city

The GBA includes nine mainland Guangdong cities, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR. The city guides bring together neighbourhoods, local businesses, manufacturing and service specialisms, transport and official local resources. Hong Kong and Macao have their own entry, employment and public-service arrangements.
