GBA city guide

Zhuhai 珠海

Zhuhai brings the Pearl River coast together with stories of education abroad and modern manufacturing. Tangjia's overseas-study museum traces Yung Wing's educational mission; the city also makes printing supplies, medical devices and industrial equipment. Lovers' Road and Yeli Island give a business stay a coastal setting beside Macao.

Zhuhai in the Greater Bay Area

Xiangzhou contains central neighbourhoods including Gongbei and Jida. Tangjiawan lies farther north, while Jinwan and Doumen are separate districts to the west. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge links three places with different entry arrangements; arriving at the Zhuhai port means entering Mainland China.

Living & visiting

Choose between the central coast, north and west

Gongbei: boundary and railway connections

Gongbei combines the Macao boundary with Zhuhai railway station on the crossing's western side. Macao's corresponding crossing is Portas do Cerco. Hengqin and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge port are separate border destinations.

Central Xiangzhou and Jida: the urban coast

Lovers' Road follows Xiangzhou's urban coast, with Xianglu Bay, Haibin Park, the Fisher Girl statue and Yeli Island as landmarks. Inland, Xiangshanhu Park and Meihua Urban Park provide green spaces; Huafa Commercial City, Midtown and Hi City are established shopping destinations.

Tangjiawan: old streets and a high-tech area

Tangjiawan's historic core follows Shanfang Road and Datong Road, with ancestral halls, traditional houses and Chinese-Western architectural details. Gongle Garden and small shops sit within this northern area, alongside the wider high-tech zone.

Jinwan and Doumen: plan a western base deliberately

Zhuhai Airport is in Jinwan, which includes Sanzao's industrial area. Doumen is a separate western district. Together with Xiangzhou, they form Zhuhai's three administrative districts.

Arriving and getting around

Gongbei combines Zhuhai railway station and the Macao Border Gate area. Zhuhai Airport is in Jinwan, while Hengqin provides another connection with Macao. Use the official airport coach routes for onward travel; crossing into Macao requires separate immigration clearance.

Hong Kong Airport offers onward bridge connections to Zhuhai, including eligible SkyPier transfer coaches. Select Zhuhai rather than Macao when entering Mainland China, then arrange the journey from the port to Gongbei, Xiangzhou, Tangjiawan or Jinwan. A connection through Macao involves its separate entry procedures.

Places and local culture

Tangjia and the students who crossed the ocean

The Zhuhai Overseas Study Cultural Museum on Shanfang Road occupies restored old houses. Its story begins with Yung Wing, who left for the United States in 1847, and the Chinese Educational Mission he helped bring about in 1872. The programme sent 120 boys to study in America in four groups.

Qi'ao: village history and a separate island outing

Qi'ao's Baishi Street and the Su Zhaozheng Former Residence Exhibition Hall, commemorating an early Chinese labour-movement leader, anchor a village-history walk. Beaches, greenways and the island's mangrove reserve add a different landscape from the central city coast; confirm the reserve's current visitor access before including it.

Use the waterfront as part of a day

Yeli Island's opera-house exterior is a distinctive stop on the central waterfront. A walk around the island pairs the theatre's architecture with the sea; performances have their own programme and tickets.
