Time difference with New Zealand

Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macao use UTC+8. Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are four hours ahead on New Zealand Standard Time and five hours ahead during New Zealand daylight saving. A 9 am call in the GBA is therefore 1 pm or 2 pm in those New Zealand cities.

Auckland to Guangzhou (CAN): China Southern Airlines

China Southern operates non-stop flights between Auckland and Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. Auckland Airport's 2026 announcement covers the New Zealand winter through late October. Guangzhou is the arrival city for Canton Fair visits and onward travel towards Foshan and the western inland cities.

Auckland to Hong Kong (HKG): Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific

Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific offer non-stop Auckland-Hong Kong services. Cathay publishes an indicative flight time of 11 hours 40 minutes from Auckland. Check the operating airline on a codeshare itinerary.

Christchurch to Hong Kong: Cathay Pacific seasonal service

Christchurch Airport's current schedule lists the next season from 2 November 2026 to 27 March 2027. Cathay publishes an indicative Christchurch-Hong Kong flight time of 11 hours 15 minutes.

Christchurch to Guangzhou: China Southern seasonal schedule

The airport's published 2026/27 schedule lists Christchurch-Guangzhou from 26 October 2026 to 27 March 2027. Compare these Christchurch departures with a domestic connection through Auckland.

Choose the airport around the ground journey

Shenzhen Bao'an: Shenzhen and the eastern GBA

Shenzhen Bao'an (SZX) is on the western side of Shenzhen. Bao'an and Nanshan are closer to this arrival point than eastern Shenzhen; Dongguan and Huizhou extend well beyond the airport's immediate surroundings.

Guangzhou Baiyun: Guangzhou, Foshan and inland western cities

CAN is a practical starting point for Guangzhou. Pazhou's Canton Fair venues, Tianhe's offices and Guangzhou South's onward rail services are separate destinations. For Foshan, Zhaoqing or Jiangmen, compare a booked road transfer with a journey via the relevant railway connection. Include the transfer from the airport to the railway station in the plan.

Hong Kong: city stay or onward transfer

If staying in Hong Kong, complete arrivals and use the airport's public transport options. If continuing directly to Mainland China or Macao, decide beforehand whether you will use an eligible SkyPier transfer or enter Hong Kong and continue by land. SkyPier is a transfer facility: clearing Hong Kong immigration first removes that option. Airline, baggage and connection conditions must match the journey.

Hong Kong Airport to Zhuhai and Macao

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge provides a route to the western side of the bay. Choose the Zhuhai destination for Mainland China or the Macao destination for Macao; they have separate arrival procedures and onward transport.

HKIA lists SkyPier Terminal transfer coaches to the bridge's Zhuhai and Macao ports. These serve eligible airport transfer passengers without going through Hong Kong arrivals. Use a same-day onward coach and go to Transfer Area E2 before Hong Kong immigration or baggage reclaim. Report to the transfer counter at least 60 minutes before the coach departure with checked baggage, or 30 minutes without checked baggage. Keep your baggage-tag receipt. Before flying, confirm that your arriving flight and connection meet the operator's conditions.

If you enter Hong Kong, the ordinary bridge route is different: travel to the Hong Kong Port, take the appropriate bridge shuttle or a booked cross-boundary coach, complete the relevant immigration formalities, then continue from the arrival port. A bridge shuttle ticket does not provide a ride to your hotel. Check the final leg to Gongbei, Xiangzhou, Taipa or Cotai separately.

Shenzhen

Compare a direct arrival at SZX with HKG plus a boundary transfer. Bao'an, Nanshan and Futian can favour different onward routes. Shenzhen arrival information.

Guangzhou

From CAN, plan the metro or road journey to your actual hotel or exhibition venue. For a Canton Fair trip, save the Pazhou exhibition area and entrance rather than just a Guangzhou address. Guangzhou transport information.

Hong Kong SAR

Choose Airport Express, bus or taxi around the hotel address and luggage. A stay on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon or in the New Territories needs a different final leg. Hong Kong arrival information.

Macao SAR

Compare an eligible HKG SkyPier coach with a land-side bridge connection. Confirm whether the hotel is on the peninsula, in Taipa or in Cotai before arranging pickup. Macao entry and local transport.

Dongguan

Humen, Houjie, Chang'an and Songshan Lake are separate Dongguan destinations. Dongguan arrival information.

Foshan

Central Chancheng, Shunde's industrial towns and Foshan West railway station serve different parts of Foshan. Foshan transport information.

Zhuhai

HKG offers a bridge connection into Zhuhai; a connecting flight to Zhuhai Airport is another option to compare. Gongbei and central Xiangzhou are different final destinations from Jinwan or Tangjiawan. Crossing onward to Macao adds separate immigration. Zhuhai arrival information.

Zhongshan

Compare arrival through Guangzhou with Shenzhen and its road connection across the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. Match the final journey to Shiqi or the relevant manufacturing town; Guzhen and Nantou are not central-city stops. Zhongshan official transport links.

Huizhou

Huicheng, Zhongkai, Huiyang and Daya Bay are separate parts of the Huizhou municipality. Huizhou arrival information.

Zhaoqing

• Confirm the operating airline, exact travel dates, baggage allowance and whether separate flight tickets protect a missed connection.
• Compare flight arrival time with the last usable ground connection. Allow for immigration, baggage collection and travel between terminals, ports or railway stations.
